SmartSuit3

Slim Leather-feel Case/Stand for iPad 4th/3rd/2nd Gen

Prepare to Stare

The SmartSuit3 is a dazzling all-over case for the iPad, combining an intelligent cover, a hard-shell back, and killer good looks.

Attractiveness Comes Standard

One part fashion statement, one part iPad guardian, the SmartSuit3 is an accessory you won’t want to be without. The down-to-business Black SmartSuit and its stunning Silver associate are now joined by a brazen new Bronze SmartSuit, so there’s one to go with every occasion, mood, or outfit.

The Smartest Cover Available

In a world of smart covers, the SmartSuit3 is a genius. The SmartSuit3 cover wakes your iPad up when you open it and puts it fast to sleep when you close it. Now when you decide to take a break and curl up with your favorite iBook, your fingers can take a break too…because the SmartSuit3 magnetically holds the cover open for you.  All ports, buttons, cameras remain fully accessible so you don't miss a thing. And if you want watch a movie or type some e-mails, the SmartSuit3 cover folds into a stand with two positions—tall for media viewing, and low-profile for comfortable typing.

Green meets Gorgeous

We want to add more joy to your environment…not more trash. The SmartSuit3 comes packaged in a reusable, water-resistant sleeve instead of single-use packaging. This powerful protective cover is strong enough to keep your iPad safe from spills, yet thin enough to transmit your every multi-touch gesture. And taking the place of disposable packing foam, The Joy Factory has included a monogramed mouse pad for your continued use at home or the office. The Joy Factory is committed to making the best products in the world while being kind to the planet, so each Joy Factory purchase is one you can be proud of.

I went to a retail store in New York City that specializes in Apple products and looked at their array of ipad3 covers. Of all, I liked The Joy Factory SmartSuit3 (in black). It appeared to be the sleekest and least bulkiest of the lot while offering some degree of protection. It also had a better feel to it than another relatively sleek ipad3 cover I was previously eying, namely, the STM Bags Grip. Note that the pictures of the SmartSuit3 on the Amazon and Joy Factory's own web site don't do it any justice as the pictures are too dark (i.e, black) so you are unable to see properly its textured appearance, which is one of its great features. If you check availability at various vendors and check it out in person, you will likely highly appreciate its look and "feel" (on your skin/hands). It is truly "slick", chic, and professional in appearance. (Note that the pictures of the bronze color version of the SmartSuit3 do give some level of indication of the textured appearance but still doesn't quite capture the actual textured look of the black version) The SmartSuit3 comes in three colors - black, bronze, and white. I did not like the white version that I have seen in person but individual tastes vary considerably. Looking at the bronze version in person, it appears to be a little lighter (less brown) than depicted in the pictures. Of all three colors, I liked the black the best. Unlike the Smartsuit3, a lot of other ipad covers cover the bezel thus taking away from the chic Apple design and look. For instance, of what use is a white ipad, if the white bezel is covered? Covering up the bezel not only makes a cover appear relatively bulky, but it also is a hindrance/obstacle when using your hand to swipe across the ipad screen near its edges. After spending $500+ for a slim Apple ipad, it instead seems to make the most sense to get a cover that reveals the ipad bezel while still being the slimmest/sleekest and chic ipad cover. Based on my examining about 20 covers at a retail store, the Joy Factory SmartSuit3 seems to be the pick of the lot that meets this criterion. I also give the SmartSuit3 extra points as it is designed in the USA (although made in China). Also I appreciate the little "green" touches such as the reusable packaging cover and the internal protection-packaging material that is designed to work as a mouse-pad. These small green gestures gives you a sense of the culture behind the company that makes the SmartSuit3 and I am happy to give them my business!

I have had several different cases for my iPads in the past (generation 1, 2, and now 3). This case is the first that functions as well as it looks. While closed, the top cover is very form fitting and lies flat across the surface. The included magnets used to both keep the cover closed and utilize the auto-sleep function work well (unlike many launch day 3rd gen covers). The hard shell backing that the iPad easily snaps into holds the tablet well, and feels as if it would offer decent drop protection. One nice thing about the back shell is that the port cut-outs for the camera, lock/volume buttons, and speaker are all enclosed along the outside perimeter (cutting out only the segment needed for these areas). Most cases simply notch these areas, this leads to less secure back support and more flexibility in the smaller trim areas that would weaken its ability to absorb corner drops. In my opinion, saving your device from a corner drop is 70% of the reason to have a case in the first place. Plus, these small changes make it look much cleaner than the notched out variety. The unit is stable in both the upright and typing positions (as stable as any 4 fold folio). The material used is also fairly "grippy" in your hands without being too rough. It won't be sliding around. The only issue I have had with it so far is that any moderate movement on the top cover while it is closed will cause the magnets to slightly shift out of place and will trigger the auto-sleep/wake feature while it is still closed. All this means is that you will hear the screen pop on and off and click as the cover seats back into position. Not a big deal, but I think just slightly stronger magnets would have fixed this niggling issue. All in all, it is easily my favorite case I have ever played with or personally owned.
