Silicone vs. Silicon

Commonly confused with silicone, silicon is the 14th element in the period table. Silicon is a metalloid, meaning that it has properties of both metals and nonmetals. Silicone, on the other hand, is a man-made synthetic polymer that is commonly known to be a flexible and rubberlike plastic. Silicone is commonly found in the medical field in devices such as implants, catheters, contact lenses, bandages and a variety of other items.

The Joy Factory’s aXtion line of cases are made of high quality food grade safe silicone. The benefits of silicone include: naturally shock absorbing, lightweight, increased durability and longevity, and increased water and oil resistance. Silicone also has low levels of toxicity, making this material both user and eco-friendly. It is both hypoallergenic and non-odorous so it is safe to use around children.

Unlike toxic silicon, our high quality material will not have any consequences to the user’s health. Users should be cautious of toxic silicon- a common characteristic of toxic silicon is that it becomes sticky overtime as it begins to breakdown.
